Northern Kites organise their own events and work in partnership with numerous organisations to deliver kite-based activities. The following is a list of events you may wish to attend over the next few months. They include opportunities to see kites in the wild on Red Kite Safari’s and Red Kite Rambles or to learn more about the kites from the Northern Kites information stand, presentations and family activities.
Red Kite Activity Day at Leam Lane Centre
Saturday 12th July 11am-4pm
The Northern Kites Project will be at Leam Lane for a day of red kite fun activities and games. Drop in anytime to find out more about red kites in Gateshead and children can enjoy free red kite craft activities. There will also be the opportunity to book your place on a Red Kite Safari on Saturday 26th July. You will be taken by coach from Leam Lane to the Derwent Walk Country Park in Gateshead where you can enjoy a walk in the beautiful countryside and visit the Kitewatch event to see the kites nesting as well as other wildlife. You will be accompanied by a guide from Northern Kites. Places are limited

Red Kite Day at The Winlaton Centre
Tuesday 22nd July 7.30pm-9.30pm
The Northern Kites Project will be at The Winlaton Centre for a red kite drop in evening. Local people are invited to come and share their red kite stories with the team that has returned red kites to the northeast. Drop in anytime. Children can enjoy free red kite craft activities.

Friday 25th July 2pm-4pm
Northern Kites staff and volunteers will be at Chopwell Library for an afternoon of red kite fun activities and games. Come along to find out more about red kites in Gateshead and children can enjoy free red kite activities.

Red Kite Bus Safari from Leam Lane Centre
Saturday 26th July - Buses leaving Leam Lane at 10am and 2pm
You will be taken by coach from Leam Lane to the Derwent Walk Country Park in Gateshead where you can enjoy a walk in the beautiful countryside and visit the Kitewatch event to see red kites and other wildlife. You will be accompanied by a guide from the Northern Kites Project. Places are limited and booking is essential. Please come to the Northern Kites activity day at Leam Lane on 12th July to book your place. The first bus will leave Leam Lane at 10am and return at 1pm. The second bus will leave at 2pm and return at 5pm. The walk is easy and gentle and will take approx. 1 hour. It will be mostly flat with some slight inclines on good paths suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The last section is uphill on a grass path.
Cost: Booking Fee £1 per person.

There will also be a guided walk at 2pm to look for red kites which have been spotted in the local area.

Red Kite Safari
Sunday 10 August 1.00pm - 4.00pm
A 5 mile walk with the Northern Kite project to look for red kites, spectacular birds that can be seen soaring above the woods and fields around Rowlands Gill. Surfaces may be uneven with steps and stiles. Suitable for all the family but please note distance and terrain. Suitable footwear and outdoor clothing are recommended. Numbers are limited, please book in advance.
Cost: £1.00 booking fee.

Come along to The Moorcock Inn for a day of red kite activities and kite-watching. The Northern Kites team will be on hand with telescopes, binoculars and tracking equipment to show you the spectacular red kites of Teesdale. Children can enjoy free red kite activities.

Join Northern Kites staff for a hearty breakfast followed by a guided walk around the beatuiful countryside of Teesdale to spot Red Kites. Suitable for those over 8yrs old but please be aware the route is over rough ground and dogs are not allowed. Children must be accompanied. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. "A Kite’s Tale" a talk by Northern Kites at The Moorcock Inn, Eggleston
Wednesday 17th September 7pm-9pm
Come along to find out more about red kites in the northeast. This presentation tells the story of the return of the red kite to the northeast and the latest news on the red kites in Teesdale. Suitable for anyone over the age of 8. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The presentation will be approx 45 minutes long and afterwards there will be the opportunity to ask questions and talk to staff and volunteers from Northern Kites.

Red Kite Watch in Teesdale
Saturday 8th November, 3pm-5pm
Come and see red kites in Teesdale. During the winter months the kites gather together and roost at dusk each evening. There will be a staffed viewpoint where you can come and watch these beautiful birds of prey in the wild The kite viewpoint is staffed by Northern Kites staff and volunteers 3pm-5pm. There are binoculars, telescopes and trained people to show you the kites
