Northern Kites Education
Enthusing and educating people and local communities about red kites was one of the key elements of the Northern Kites Project. The Project team worked with pre-school, primary and secondary schools and also delivered adult education opportunities, with a focus based around the kites.
All education activities and materials developed by Northern Kites were linked with elements of the National Curriculum. ‘Sprite the Kite’ was our cartoon kite that helped explain about red kites and the reintroduction project. She was included in the kite-based education activities. (Sprite the Kite was illustrated by Jules Burnett).
There are two schemes available for schools to join providing opportunities to learn about red kites and their return to northeast England – KIDS4KITES and the Adopt-a-Kite Scheme.
KIDS4KITES is co-ordinated by Gateshead Council. Please call 01207 545212 for more information.
The Adopt-a-Kite scheme is co-ordinated by the National Trust at Gibside. Please contact them on 01207 541820 for more information.
